Montclair History Center

The Montclair History Center (MHC), built in 1965, is a private and non-profit organization to preserve, learn, and appreciate the local history. MHC aims to preserve the local history with the help of its ancient buildings, unique antiques, and documents. The center educates the local citizens on history through various programs, exhibitions, and advocacy techniques.

The Montclair History Center encompasses four historical monuments in the region of Montclair. They are:

•         The Crane House and Historic YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association)

•         The Nathaniel Crane House

•         The Clark House

•         The Shultz House, also called Evergreens

Tours

With a careful reopening strategy in place during the pandemic, the visitors can select from one of the three private tours at the Crane House and Historic YWCA building. Many Voices, Eyewitness to Black History, and Family tours are available to select.

Give a quick glance at the calendar on the website for any exciting event happening while you are there. The center has taken care of accessibility needs so that people with special needs are not left behind in experiencing the history. The Crane House and Historic YWCA’s first floor, kitchen, and basement are fitted with a ramp and an elevator to accommodate people with disabilities. If you are someone interested in farming, there is a farm camp to attend at the center. It strives to generate interest in the young minds about the importance of nature, farming, and historical living.

Go on a self-guided tour by walk or on a bicycle by following the walking tour booklet, published with the help of Partners for Health Foundation.
